Our story
Local wellington residents queued outside Joule’s Brewery’s latest project awaiting the opening of its flagship pub for Telford. The Cock Hotel Wellington, following a refurbishment that took over two years, investing over £1m in the project is the largest pub refurbishment that the Shropshire brewery has undertaken.
The Brewery wanted to be in Wellington, MD Steve Nuttall explains why.
“We really like the town, Wellington is a historic center and we love old pubs with interesting stories and deep roots in the community. For us Wellington has a real sense of place, it’s quite traditional with its own identity it felt like the right place for our Telford flagship. Of all the pubs we most wanted was the Cock Hotel, it was a part of the old Joule’s estate which pulled on our heartstrings, and of course, is an iconic alehouse.”
The Cock Hotel has been substantially extended with a new state of the art kitchen facility, the new room which features a six-meter bi-fold door crafted by local oak specialist Venables opens the whole area onto the courtyard, a bespoke steel ceiling was made by Minshall’s of Market Drayton along with steel windows hand made by Ferro of Market Drayton. The original bars have all been restored by master craftsman Eddie Chapman Smith. Forman Chris Blase ‘It has been a huge overall team effort, along with all the Joules projects, we work as a team, the trades all input into the design, so we deliver the detail that characterises Joule’s pubs, we are all really chuffed with this one.

I visited The Cock Hotel for my birthday meal just before Christmas as a group of 7. The atmosphere is so welcoming from the moment you walk through the door, the staff can’t do enough for you. The decoration inside and out is stunning and the food is equally as impressive, everyone in our group enjoyed our meals and couldn’t find fault with anything. A real little gem in Wellington….we will definitely be back.
My wife’s family from various parts of the country meet every Christmas for a gathering this year in Telford, finding a venue to accommodate 22 people was difficult until we stumbled on The Cock Hotel, from day one to the day Louise took care of our every requirements even when numbers changed nothing was to much trouble she gave us the Breakfast Room so we could all be together which was lovely.
Booked for family of 12 people, in a separate room for extra privacy. Service was very good, very attentive and food was lovely. Was a great get together for all the family. Thanks
The newly refurbished dining area was warm (on a freezing December evening), beautifully decorated and the ambiance in the bar area was equally welcoming. All the servers and bar staff were very friendly and helpful and I hope that I’ve converted several of our party who hadn’t been before, to return. Thank you – a great start to Christmas!”
It was the first visit for my 83yr old god mother. She was overwhelmed by the size of the dining area. And the size of the Turkey dinner ! In her words it’s spotless!! And the people make you feel so welcome
